Will Brown claims light-to-flag victory in Queensland finale
Will Brown claimed a second lights-to-flag victory in the final TCR Australia race of the weekend at Queensland Raceway.
The Melbourne Performance Centre driver made a strong start from pole and never looked back.
Garry Rogers Motorsport driver Aaron Cameron made an even stronger start from fourth on the grid to claim second place into Turn 1, passing Peugeot team-mate Jordan Cox and Honda driver Tony D’Alberto.
And D’Alberto had a tough race, dropping down the order and then made contact with Cox in a late dive for a position which resulted in a ten-second penalty – dropping him down to finish tenth and last.
Cox soon retired from suspension damage following contact with Josh Buchan.
Race 2 winner Brad Harris made another strong race, passing his Wall Racing team-mate D’Alberto at mid-point of the race, to finish a strong third behind Brown and Cameron.
Lynk & Co driver Tim Slade got some revenge after his difficult weekend to finish fourth ahead of the HMO Hyundais of Bailey Sweeny and Buchan in positions five and six.
Lachclan Mineeff (Audi), Michael Clemente (Cupra), Ben Bargwanna (Peugeot) and D’Alberto finished in positions seven to ten, with just ten cars taking the chequered flag.
A late safety car came as Kody Carland’s Peugeot came to a halt on track with five laps left of the race, resulting in a one-lap dash to the finish as the race resumed.
Buchan heads a close title fight on 457 points, just one ahead of Sweeny and 32 points ahead of Cameron.
The next race takes place at Sandown on September 8-10.
