Ash Sutton ‘over the moon’ with Knockhill pole

Ash Sutton admitted he was over the moon after picking up his fourth pole of the BTCC season in qualifying at Knockhill.

It looked like the NAPA Racing UK run of pole positions may come to an end when Sutton was the only one of the four Fords to make it through to Q2.

That came despite losing track time in FP2 to a damper issue, which limited the number of quick laps he was able to complete prior to the session.

Sutton’s fastest lap would come at the end of the second part of qualifying and saw him edge out Josh Cook by just 0.006s.

“That was a struggle – it was a push,” he said. “Hybrid around here makes such a big difference, especially through the hairpin and onto the back straight.

“We’ve had a bit of a rough day to be fair. We had a damper issue in FP2, which kind of limited our running. The pressure was on when the slicks came out, but we know this car is phenomenal on the soft tyre and I just had to dig deep and I did exactly that.

“Watch the onboard and you’ll see how much I was on the limit, and I’d have been happy with second or third on the grid to be honest. Now I just need to get it off the line tomorrow.”
