Will Brown set for Triple Eight move as Erebus exit confirmed

Will Brown looks set to join Triple Eight as Shane van Gisbergen’s replacement next season after Erebus Motorsport confirmed that he will leave the team ahead of the end of his contract.

Brown was under contract with Erebus until the end of the 2024 campaign, but will now depart at the end of the season to ‘explore new opportunities’ having emerged as the hot favourite to replace van Gisbergen when he makes the move to NASCAR.

Although Triple Eight has refused to comment beyond re-iterating that van Gisbergen currently remains contracted for 2024, it is expected that Brown will soon be confirmed in the seat, with van Gisbergen stating earlier this week that he was ‘comfortable’ with the drivers who had emerged on the shortlist to replace him.

“It’s been an incredible journey with Erebus, and I’m grateful for the experiences and opportunities I’ve had with the team,” Brown said.

“This decision wasn’t taken lightly, and I want to thank Erebus, the entire team, sponsors, and fans for their support during my time here.

“I’ll be giving my all in the remaining races and remain 100% committed to our joint goal of winning the Driver’s and Team’s Championship with Erebus in 2023.”

Brown currently sits second to team-mate Brodie Kostecki in the points.

“Will has been a part of our team for almost six years and while we are disappointed to see him go, it will be business as usual for the remainder of 2023,” team CEO Barry Ryan said.

“Our combined focus is on securing both titles and building Erebus to be the best team in pit lane.”
