Rob Huff to make BTCC return at Knockhill
Former World Champion Rob Huff will make a surprise return to the BTCC grid this weekend at Knockhill after inking a deal to join Team HARD.
Huff will step into the car usually driven by Nic Hamilton, who will sit out a second successive meeting after stepping down from his drive at Croft at the eleventh hour.
It will mark the first time the 43-year-old has appeared in the series since a one-off outing at Silverstone with Power Maxed Racing in 2017, whilst his last appearance at Knockhill came during his sole season with the SEAT works team back in 2004.
After the demise of WTCR, Huff has been competing in the new TCR World Tour this year with the Comtoyou Audi team, scoring a race win at Vallelunga to lie fourth in the standings.
“I am delighted to be back in the British Touring Car Championship, especially with Team HARD Racing,” he said.
“The BTCC holds a special place in my heart, and I have fond memories of my previous time here. I’m eager to hit the Knockhill circuit again and compete against some of the finest drivers in the country.
“I am determined to give my best performance and help the team maximise the weekend.”
Team boss Tony Gilham expressed delight at welcoming Huff into the team.
“We are absolutely thrilled to have Rob join our team for this weekend’s BTCC round,” he said. “His experience and achievements in the world of touring car racing speak volumes about his skills.
“I’ve been trying to get Rob into one of our cars for a while and I’m delighted that this moment has finally come. The team can’t wait to get going.”
