Neil Brown Engineering founder passes away

Neil Brown, the founder of Neil Brown Engineering, has passed away at the age of 74 after a short illness.

Founded in the 197os, NBE has provided engines for use in a wide range of different formula – such as British F3 and British F3 – with one of its most successful partnerships being with Honda in the British Touring Car Championship.

First established in the Super Touring era, that relationship would power Honda cars to six championship titles with Team Dynamics, with NBE engines also used by West Surrey Racing since the start of the NGTC-era – adding a further three titles with Colin Turkington and BMW.

NBE and WSR had previously worked together in British F3, when Neil Brown supplied the Mugen power-plants that were fitted to WSR’s cars.

Alongside WSR and One Motorsport this season, NBE engines are also now fitted to the three Toyota Corollas being run by Speedworks – with more than 150 race wins in the NGTC-era alone going to cars running Neil Brown-developed engines.

Further success in touring cars came in the DTM, where NBE engines secured multiple title wins with Audi.

TouringCarTimes extends its sympathies to Neil’s family, friends and colleagues.
