Seventh heaven for Ash Sutton
Ash Sutton made it seven wins for the season with a lights-to-flag success in the second BTCC race of the weekend.
Having finished second to team-mate Dan Cammish in race one, Sutton jumped into the lead on the run to turn one when the lights went out for race two and was never in any danger from that point on at the front.
Setting the fastest lap of the race, Sutton was able to ease away from Cammish behind to set a new personal best for wins in a season, with Cammish and Dan Rowbottom following him home as Motorbase locked out the podium for the second successive race.
Rowbottom didn’t have it easy however as he was forced to defend hard to keep Tom Ingram at bay, with the defending champion moving up into fourth on the opening lap.
Ingram would need to fight early on to keep Josh Cook at bay before easing away from the Honda as he came under pressure from Jake Hill.
That pressure would come to a head when Hill suffered a spin at Hawthorn that dropped him down to eleventh spot.
It promoted team-mate Colin Turkington up into sixth spot, with Hill facing further heartache when the top six was then reversed for the final race.
Stephen Jelley and Ricky Collard followed behind, with the top ten completed by Dan Lloyd and Tom Chilton.
The pair would battle hard in the early stages before Lloyd was able to build a gap over the Hyundai behind.
George Gamble and Dexter Patterson were the only two retirements with mechanical issues.
