Colin Turkington enjoys lights-to-flag victory
Colin Turkington added to his run of success at Croft with victory in the final BTCC race of the weekend, with the BMW driver leading from start to finish.
Turkington was drawn on pole for the race having taken sixth place in race two, and led the field away from the start ahead of Josh Cook’s Honda, which had started alongside on the front row.
Cook would try and get ahead into Tower, but it delayed the One Motorsport man enough to let Tom Ingram draw alongside on the run through Barcroft; the EXCELR8 man completing the move just as the safety car was deployed to recover the Cupra of Dan Lloyd after an off at turn two.
Crucially, Ash Sutton had also hit trouble after contact with Stephen Jelley left him with a broken front right, with the points leader able to get as far as pit entry before his Focus ground to a halt.
After the restart, Turkington came under pressure from Ingram for the lead but was gradually able to ease away at the front to secure victory, with Ingram and Cook following him home to complete the podium.
Dan Cammish and Dan Rowbottom followed behind, with Aiden Moffat rounding out the top six.
Moffat had been the highest placed driver on the soft tyre but his hopes of coming through the pack were hampered by a battle with the Toyota of Rory Butcher, which would cost him valuable time.
Jake Hill took seventh having suffered a spin at Sunny whilst trying to pass Rowbottom, taking a place from Butcher on the final lap, with the top ten completed by Aron Taylor-Smith and George Gamble.
Both Jack Butel and Daryl DeLeon had shown the potential to score a top ten but the former would lose out by contact at the hairpin and the latter picked up a penalty for someone working on his car beyond the allotted time on the grid.
