Dan Cammish heads Motorbase 1-2-3 in Croft qualifying
Dan Cammish ensured that Motorbase maintained its stunning qualifying record in the 2023 BTCC after heading a NAPA Racing 1-2-3 at Croft.
The session would become a five-minute shootout to determine who would snare pole position after series newcomer Daryl DeLeon put his Team HARD-run Cupra into the barriers at Barcroft to bring out the red flags.
At that stage, Cammish held provisional pole after an impressive lap saw him jump ahead of team-mates Ash Sutton and Dan Rowbottom into P1.
Sutton had held top spot himself despite his lack of hybrid thanks to his position as points leader, showing vastly improved pace than in practice at the wheel of his Ford Focus to edge out the Honda of Josh Cook.
However, Robottom then went 0.027s ahead of Sutton before Cammish went quicker still to lead the way and make it a NAPA Racing UK 1-2-3.
When the cars headed back out, both Rowbottom and Sutton elected to rejoin the session only to come straight back into the pits, with Cammish remaining in the pits throughout as others chased his time.
Tom Ingram would improve his time in the final five minutes as would Colin Turkington, but neither was able to challenge the three Fords at the front – which means the 100 per cent qualifying record for the team continues.
Cook would be the driver who ended up as best of the rest as he set the fourth best time, with Turkington’s later flyer moving him up to fifth spot.
Jake Hill took sixth despite an off-track moment at Sunny, with Ingram ending up with seventh spot – his earlier running having been impacted by a spin at the same place before the stoppage.
Aron Taylor-Smith took eighth in his PMR Vauxhall Astra, with the top ten completed by Stephen Jelley and Aiden Moffat.
Amongst those with work to do on Sunday is Rory Butcher, who will start back in 18th place in his Toyota.
Newcomer DeLeon would end up in 25th as a result of his off, with returnee Michael Crees in 21st having also had a spin earlier in the session.
