Colin Turkington pleased to enter summer break on a high

Colin Turkington admitted his delight at an ‘amazing day’ at Oulton Park that ensured he heads into the BTCC summer break amongst the leading contenders in the title race.

The WSR driver looked set for a weekend to forget after being excluded from qualifying for not having enough fuel left at the end of the session to provide a sample.

Turkington was able to battle his way up into the top ten in the opening race however, and then fought his way up to fourth place in race two.

Wasting little time in then hitting the front in race three, Turkington completed an impressive back-to-front performance with a second win of the campaign – leaving him fourth at the half-way stage of the campaign.

“It’s been the most amazing day,” he said. “I was a bit down in the dumps on Saturday night knowing I had to start right at the back in P27 – right in the dip at Oulton! I didn’t think we could make the progress we did, though.

“The reality exceeded my expectations. Oulton Park has been quite a good track for the BMW previously and although it can be tough to pass we played our cards right and in each race it kept getting better and better.

”This victory means so much to me. I had to really graft for it, having started right at the back at the beginning of the day in the doldrums to the top step of the podium. It really means a lot.”
