Thed Björk calls first TCR World Tour win “unbelievable” after ending victory drought

Cyan Racing’s Thed Björk has described his first TCR World Tour win as an “unbelievable” feeling, as he ended a lengthy period away from the podium’s top step.

Björk earned his first World Touring Car Championship win in 2016 with the team, then took two more in 2017 en route to the title.

In the World Touring Car Cup that succeeded it he was a four-time winner in 2018, a two-time winner in 2019 and then picked up a sole victory in 2020.

Two second places were his only two podium appearances in the last two seasons of WTCR, but he already had two World Tour podiums this year before arriving at the Hungaroring.

Björk qualified ninth, converted that into an eighth place finish in Race 1, then from second on the reversed-grid claimed victory in Race 2. He took the lead on lap one, then after an early safety car period managed the gap to Comtoyou Racing’s Rob Huff behind.

“Yes! A win! It’s so nice, it’s unbelievable. This is what we’re fighting for,” he said afterwards.

“I know we’re doing good results with the team, but it’s so nice when you get the first place [yourself]. It’s been hard and passionate work with the Lynk & Co car, and today just felt amazing.”

The result means Björk currently sits sixth in the World Tour standings, 50 points from the top, and also means Cyan Racing have won four out of the first eight races.

Björk’s team-mate Yann Ehrlacher has won two of those, and currently tops the points table.
