Colin Turkington completes BMW sweep in race three
Colin Turkington completed a WSR clean-sweep of race day at Oulton Park with victory in race three, as Ash Sutton saw his championship lead cut with a lap one retirement.
The race kicked off with the threat of rain in the air, with pole man Adam Morgan leading the field away but behind, Tom Ingram moved over to defend from Sutton only for the pair to make contact as Sutton was squeezed into the pit wall.
That broke the suspension on the front of the Ford and left Sutton to park his car on the run to Cascades, triggering a safety car period.
As the field came around towards the end of the lap, the pack would be shuffled as multiple drivers appeared not to have got the message that the race was going under caution.
After the restart, it was therefore Morgan leading the way from Turkington and Jake Hill, with Ingram and Cammish behind as the action got back underway.
Turkington would battle his way ahead of Morgan to take the lead of the race with a fine move at turn one, with Hill also getting ahead of the local racer as he looked to secure a hat-trick.
However, Turkington was able to keep Hill at arms length as he secured victory, with Hill and Morgan following him home in a BMW 1-2-3.
Ingram and Cammish followed behind, with sixth going to Aiden Moffat – who took full advantage of being one of only four drivers on the soft tyre to fight his way through to sixth and take the Independent win.
Josh Cook took seventh ahead of Dan Rowbottom – who was also on the soft – with Speedworks pairing Ricky Collard and Rory Butcher rounding out the top ten.
