Tom Ingram quickest in opening practice

Tom Ingram emerged with the fastest time as the BTCC field hit the track for the first time in opening practice at Oulton Park.

The defending champion was able to edge out the Ford of Ash Sutton during the session, which has been shortened by five minutes this weekend to take into account the longer, two-part qualifying session taking place this afternoon.

Ingram’s time of 1:25.507 was set midway through the session and saw him beat Sutton by just 0.022s, with Bobby Thompson’s Cupra slotting into third on his final lap to end up just 0.070s off the pace.

Josh Cook showed solid pace in his Honda once again to go fourth, with Dan Cammish and Colin Turkington rounding out the top six.

That made Turkington the quickest of the rear-wheel drive runners, although it was a different story for Jake Hill as he was back in 17th place on the timesheets and more than a second off the pace.

Although the session passed without major dramas, there were issues for some drivers, with Jade Edwards managing just six laps before a mystery mechanical issue saw her Cupra parked up in the pits, whilst Will Powell was handed a black flag for repeated track limits infringements.
