Aiden Moffat pleased with podium return
Aiden Moffat said he was pleased to return to the BTCC podium at Thruxton after securing his first top-three finish for almost twelve months.
Moffat had last scored a podium result at Oulton Park last season and went into the weekend having scored just one top ten finish since his move to One Motorsport over the winter.
At a circuit where the Honda Civic is known to be strong, the Scot was able to benefit from the reverse grid draw after a tenth place finish in race two to line up on the front row and then produced an impressive defensive drive to keep the BMW of Colin Turkington at bay.
“It’s been difficult this season, but we got to Thruxton and the car felt great,” he said. “We should have been in the top ten in qualifying but I messed up at the final corner, and I gave myself a chance by coming through in the first two races to benefit from the reverse grid.
“It was a hard race and there was a lot of defending involved, but that makes the race all the more enjoyable. I was struggling with the front end from quite early on and knew it was only going to get more challenging, so it was a case of saving the hybrid for when I really needed it.
“It was quite a tactical race but to come away with my first podium for the team is a big boost.”
Moffat’s race three podium came on the back of a double podium earlier in the day for Thruxton expert Josh Cook, who took third place in both races one and two.
“Ultimately, the fact I was disappointed with two third places and an eleventh – and two Independents wins – shows that we set the standard high at One Motorsport with Starline,” he said. “The car is improving all the time and we need to keep the momentum going.
“Given the steps we made forward at Thruxton, it will give us hope going into the rest of the rounds this year.”
