Colin Turkington hits the front in second practice
Colin Turkington set the fastest time of the weekend to date to lead the way in second and final practice for the BTCC season opener at Donington Park.
Turkington was a fraction of a second quicker than Ash Sutton had managed in the first session to top the times for West Surrey Racing, setting a lap just 0.024s quicker than Sutton had posted earlier in the day.
This time around, it was Dan Rowbottom that would be the quickest of the front-wheel drive runners as he slotted into second spot on the times behind Turkington and ahead of Jake Hill, who was third best in his Laser Tools-backed BMW.
Tom Chilton showed the potential of his all-new Hyundai with a strong fourth place ahead of Sutton and Ricky Collard, who once again impressed in the leading Toyota.
Adam Morgan and Dan Cammish followed behind, with Tom Ingram in ninth spot as he was able to set his first timed laps after his issues in FP1. Former team-mate Dan Lloyd rounded out the top ten in the leading Team HARD Cupra.
All 27 drivers were able to set timed laps – the first time that has happened in an official session this season – although Bobby Thompson suffered a wastegate problem that restricted him to only eight laps.
