Supercars set to confirm aero changes
Supercars is set to confirm changes to the aero package of the Chevrolet Camaro ahead of the opening meeting of the new season this weekend in Newcastle.
An additional round of Vehicle Control Aerodynamic Testing (VCAT) was put in place by the series on the back of pre-season testing at Sydney Motorsport Park, where the Camaro dominated the top of the timesheets and only one Ford Mustang managed to break into the top ten.
That came on the back of Ford Performance Racing bosses in the USA questioning parity of the new Gen3 machines – suggesting that work needed to be done on both engines and aerodynamics.
Both the Mustang and Camaro hit the track last week for further testing at Temora Aerodrome, with both Speedcafe and V8 Sleuth reporting that the Chevrolet is now set to undergo a downforce change prior to the opening round.
That would see an increase in downforce to the front end of the Camaro, with the aero package of the Mustang remaining unchanged.
Official confirmation of the move is expected in the coming days.
