Audi RS 3 LMS takes Model of the Year award
The Audi RS 3 LMS has been named as the TCR Model of the Year for the second successive season, and the third time in total, following the conclusion of the various 2022 campaigns.
The Audi saw off the challenge of the Honda Civic Type R and the Cupra Leon Competición to take top honours in the race to secure the award – handed out by TCR creators WSC and determined via the results of all certified models competing in TCR-sanctioned races around the globe.
A total of 313 races awarded points for the Model of the Year classification, with Audi cars taking a total of 76 wins and scoring nearly 8,500 points.
Franco Girolami drove an Audi car to the TCR Europe title, whilst Tom Coronel also won the FIA Motorsport Games – both running with the Comtoyou Racing team.
Comtoyou was also behind Audi’s five wins in the final season for the World Touring Car Cup, with Gilles Magnus and Nathanaël Berthon both making it onto the top step of the podium.
“Competition for the TCR Model of the Year is fiercer every season,” WSC president Marcello Lotti said. “The 2022 season has seen a thrilling fight between the Audi RS 3 LMS and the and Honda Civic Type R that was decided by the very last results. Winning this accolade three times in five years is therefore a truly remarkable achievement.
“Audi Sport is one of the brands that have embraced the TCR concept from the very start, and their RS 3 LMS TCR has proved to be one of the most competitive cars in the category, helping customer teams to achieve great results.”
