South American 2023 WTCR rounds set for August dates

The South American rounds on the 2023 FIA World Touring Car Cup calendar are set for to take place in August – later than was originally expected.

Early reports had suggested that races in the region would come at the start of the season in March before the series headed for European soil.

“We managed to return to the date we originally talked about because the WTCR was scheduled to start in March on our continent,” said Julio Maglione, president of the Uruguayan Racing Drivers Association to Motores En Punta.

“Now it has changed, it will start in Europe, then it will come to South America for two dates.”

Maglione stated that the round at El Pinar in Uruguay will be held on August 4-6 and the round at Termas de Río Hondo in Argentina on August 18-20.

There is no official confirmation from the WTCR on the potential South American rounds or dates, other than WTCR Director Jean-Baptiste Ley previously confirming ongoing discussions with “South American countries”.
