Jake Hill delighted by Silverstone efforts

Jake Hill admits he can’t wait for the BTCC season finale at Brands Hatch on the back of a successful weekend at Silverstone.

The West Surrey Racing driver battled his way to victory at the Northamptonshire circuit for the second season in succession to climb up to second in the standings – leaving him just five points away from top spot with a round to run.

Hill had started the weekend well with second on the grid allowing him to maintain his record as the best qualifier this season, and he backed it up with second in the opening race behind the Toyota of Rory Butcher.

Although he lost ground at the start of race two, Hill quickly worked his way back up to second spot before a fine move on Butcher saw him grab the lead at Copse – holding on to the finish despite a safety car period backing up the field.

Taking fourth in race three having started the reverse grid race from eighth, Hill would also grab fastest lap in race three and will now go to Brands Hatch as the closest challenger to Ash Sutton.

“All my effort went into this weekend as it always does,” he said, “but you push that little bit more when you have the bit between your teeth and the car is where you need it to be.

“It doesn’t get much better than second, first, fourth and a fastest lap when it comes to Silverstone as it hasn’t always been my best circuit, so to have such a strong weekend at such an important stage of the season is vital for me.

“There is no better place for me to finish the season than at home, and Brands Hatch GP is a circuit that I absolutely love. The goal when we get there will be to get qualifying done, and then hopefully we can disappear off up the road!”
