Mike Halder misses home TCR Europe round due to TCR Denmark clash
Mike Halder will miss this weekend’s TCR Europe round at the Nürburgring due to a clashing TCR Denmark commitment at Jyllandsringen.
Due to the Nürburgring being the home track for both Halder and his Halder Motorsport team, he had planned to contest both series in an ambitious plan which would have required him to drive from Denmark to Germany with his Honda Civic Type R TCR car in tow once TCR Denmark’s action concludes early on Saturday afternoon.
However TCR Europe has ruled out the possibility of Halder arriving on Sunday and contesting that day’s race with the car, as scrutineering for the series takes place earlier in the weekend and he would also have missed the pre-event drivers’ briefing.
Linda Herter, Halder Motorsport’s team manager, spoke to TouringCarTimes about the situation.
“Mike has a title chance in Denmark and so it would be great to battle for the title there, and also the team principal of TPR Motorsport [Halder’s TCR Denmark team] asked him to do Denmark because he also wants to win [the title] with the team, and because of that he took the decision to do it.”
TPR Motorsport is currently a distant second in the teams’ standings in TCR Denmark, while Halder himself is far closer to the top of the points table as he trails championship leader Kasper H. Jensen by 37 points with three rounds to go.
“He would like to drive here at his home track, and to show the fans and sponsors and the team that he’s very familiar with the track,” Herter added. “So it was a very hard decision for him.”
Halder Motorsport is still active in the TCR Europe paddock with two cars for Michelle Halder and Jack Young.
