Mattias Ekström handed penalty for Pool Furious semi final incident
Cupra driver Mattias Ekström received a time penalty for the incident with Hyundai Motorsport N’s Mikel Azcona in the FIA ETCR Pool Furious semi final 2 at Zolder.
The Swede made contact with the rear of the Hyundai Veloster N ETCR, with Azcona going wide while braking for the chicane, enabling Ekström to overtake for second place.
The stewards found Ekström responsible for the collision, giving the Swede a five-second time penalty.
The penalty drops Ekström to third in the semi final 2 results, and Azcona promoted to second, meaning that they will share the front row for the Pool Furious Super final with Romeo Ferraris’ Maxime Martin.
