Rob Huff: “Everything is flowing in the team”
Zengo Motorsport claimed a strong qualifying result at Motorland Aragón, with Rob Huff setting the fourth fastest time in qualifying for the first race while his team-mate Daniel Nagy secured seventh.
“The team is working really well, they are relaxed, happy, everyone knows their place,” Huff told TouringCarTimes. “You come in the morning and things are ready and tidy, and the mechanics know what they have to do.”
Zengo Motorsport ran a double programme in 2021, with a four-car team in the WTCR and a two-car operation in the ETCR, in partnership with Cupra.
The season was a stretch both financially and from an operational point of view for the team.
“Right now, we have two cars, it’s something we can manage and can work with,” explained Huff. “It’s not like last year, when we had forty people, a double programme, it was difficult to focus. Now there are few of us, but everyone is relaxed and knows what they have to do, so the team is at its best.”
The Hungarian outfit was the last to confirm its entry for the 2022 season, just a couple of weeks before the first round at Pau-Ville. Nevertheless, the team has achieved strong results so far.
“Sometimes it’s not just about having straight line speed, but also about knowing how to get the most of what we got,” added the 2012 champion. “When you come into the garage and see things ready, the mechanics doing their work happy and without problems, it gives you confidence and you also do better behind the wheel.”
Huff also praised team-mate Nagy, who secured his so far best qualifying result of 2022 today.
“Dániel is a good driver and, because the atmosphere and workflow in the team are good, we can also dedicate some time to help him,” added Huff. “And he’s doing well, he’s fast, he understands the car and improves in every race.”
The Briton concluded acknowledging team owner Zoltan Zengo’s effort to pull the the team together: “Cupra gives us some support as customers, but all that is going on here is thanks to Zoltan. He put the team together, he’s pulling us forward and he’s the one paying the bills. But, as you can see, it’s working very well.”
