Adrien Tambay: “I had to make up for my mistakes”

Adrien Tambay scored the victory of the Pool Furious final at the Hungaroring, becoming the King of the Weekend for the second round of the FIA ETCR.

The CUPRA EKS driver is heading to the next race in Spain as championship leader.

“The final was amazing,” Tambay told TouringCarTimes after the race. “I had to overtake Bruno quite strongly and it happened after two corners, this was the plan A and it worked, and I’m really happy the result.”

Tambay has been strong since his debut in the series at Pau-Ville in May, but a collision with team-mate Tom Blomqvist during Saturday’s quarter final was a serious setback for the team.

“I had to make ground for my mistakes from yesterday and this morning and, to be honest, I put a bit of pressure on myself to reward the team with a good result,” added the Frenchman. “I knew the Cupra was really quick around here and I had to have a trouble-free race.”

Tambay now leads the FIA ETCR championship on 182 points, two more than team-mate Mattias Ekström and 43 over Hyundai’s Mikel Azcona.

The next round of the FIA ETCR takes place in a week’s time at Jarama (Spain) and Tambay refuses to be over confident after his strong weekend in Hungary: “Now we have to keep our head down and work for Cupra’s home race.”
