No hard feelings between Tambay and Blomqvist after quarter final incident
Cupra EKS drivers Adrien Tambay and Tom Blomqvist have put their FIA ETCR Pool Furious quarter final collision down as a racing incident, with both drivers left disappointed but moving on.
“I don’t think that anything special other than racing happened,” Tambay told TouringCarTimes after the race.
“We race at the limit and, at the end, I think Spengler was cooked, so it’s a shame because I think we would have probably overtaken him and finished first and second.
“We get on very well with each other. We just race each other, I mean, we will learn from it and it’s a shame for Tom because for me it doesn’t change so much, because it only changes from first to second position, but for Tom it changes because he goes into the other semi final.”
Blomqvist saw an opportunity to snatch third place from his team-mate on the last lap when leading driver Bruno Spengler was slow out of Turn 1, resulting in a collision and retirement for Blomqvist.
“Obviously a bit of a mess and mis-judgement,” said Blomqvist.
”We had a good advantage on that race, but sometimes you have sh**y days in motorsport and I just feel sorry for the team because they have to work on the car and, obviously, for the championship it doesn’t help. Anyway, we live and learn and there are still many opportunities to come.”
The Pool Furious semi finals are scheduled for Sunday morning and the Cupra EKS mechanics are already hard at work to repair the damaged Cupra e-Racer which is shared by Blomqvist and Jordi Gené.
And the Spaniard needs the car ready for the Pool Fast semi finals which takes place on Saturday evening.
