TCR to continue in Scandinavia

TCR cars will continue to compete in Scandinavia despite the announcement that that STCC will move to electric power from 2023 onwards.

The STCC will introduce a new breed of electric cars being developed by EPWR next season, with twelve cars set to do battle on track in what will be the first national touring car series to run solely with EV machines.

However, TCR cars will continue to be active in a revised series run under the TCR Scandinavia banner, which will take on the role of a feeder series to the STCC.

Whilst a number of teams running TCR cars in Scandinavia – such as Brink Motorsport – are expected to compete in the new series, smaller independent teams and junior drivers will be able to continue using their current cars into 2023 and beyond.

The existing TCR cars will continue to race during selected STCC weekends next season, with a full schedule announced in due course.

“TCR has still got an important role during the STCC weekends where both juniors and independents with less resources than the established teams will be provided with good opportunities to grow and take the step up to the electrified main class STCC,” Micke Bern, Managing Director of STCC, said

“There is also an interesting development of the TCR regulations with the introduction of hybrids for 2023 that we will follow closely. That is definitely something that can be relevant for TCR Scandinavia and that fits well with our work for a sustainable transition.”

The current STCC TCR Scandinavia season continues at Skellefteå on June 17-18.
