Adam Morgan secures race three honours at Thruxton
Adam Morgan grabbed his first win of the 2022 BTCC season with victory in the final race of the weekend at Thruxton.
The Ciceley Motorsport driver had started on the front row of the grid alongside Jason Plato but jumped ahead of the Honda man on the start to grab the lead and would never be headed from that point on.
That was despite the best efforts of Colin Turkington who would run him close throughout having also got away well at the start, although the WSR racer was unable to add to his own victory tally.
Plato’s bid for another win was effectively ended by a slow start off the line, with the two-time champion swallowed up on the opening lap by the pack behind as he dropped down to fifth spot behind Dan Rowbottom and Ash Sutton.
Sutton would clear Rowbottom on lap two and chased the two BMW drivers down but had to settle for third spot at the finish.
Rowbottom followed behind in fourth ahead of Josh Cook, who would again lead the BTC Racing challenge after a moment for Plato saw him run off track at Church – leading to him being forced to pit to have grass removed from the front of the car.
Tom Ingram took sixth in his Hyundai after a heated battle with Jake Hill saw the BMW slide into the Hyundai at the chicane – leading to Hill being forced to pit to have a damaged bumper removed from the car and dropping him out of the top ten.
Dan Lloyd followed Ingram home in seventh, with Michael Crees taking his best result in the series to date in eighth. Ash Hand and Roru Butcher rounded out the top ten.
