Jake Hill hits the front in second practice

Jake Hill emerged with the quickest time from the second free practice session ahead of round three of the BTCC season at Thruxton.

The West Surrey Racing driver had been the fastest rear-wheel drive runner in the opening session but would vault up to P1 in the second 40 minutes of running – albeit with the lead times being slower than those seen earlier in the day.

Hill’s benchmark time of 1:15.722s would be a tenth of a second quicker than Ash Sutton was able to manage in the NAPA Racing Ford Focus as he once again showed encouraging pace, with FP1 pacesetter Josh Cook third in his BTC Racing Honda Civic.

Dan Rowbottom’s Team Dynamics-run Civic followed behind in fourth place, with a late improvement from Dan Lloyd seeing his Hyundai vault up the order into fifth spot ahead of the Focus of Dan Cammish.

Gordon Shedden and Colin Turkington followed close behind, with the top ten rounded out by Jason Plato and Tom Chilton.

Points leader Tom Ingram was 13th quickest but had set a purple first sector on his final lap before the session was halted due to an issue with Aiden Moffat’s Infiniti Q50 just as the chequered flag was being readied.

Having missed FP1 with an electrical issue, Michael Crees was able to take part in the session meaning all 29 drivers took to the track.
