Additional test session added following tyre concerns at the Nürburgring
An additional 15-minute test session has been added to the FIA World Touring Car Cup schedule at the Nürburgring Nordschleife today following the numerous tyre incidents during yesterday’s free practice sessions.
All five drivers from Lynk & Co Cyan Racing and the four Honda drivers of Münnich Motorsport and Engstler Motorsport reported punctures or tyre delaminations during the free practice sessions.
As a result of this, the teams will get an additional test session right ahead of qualifying, starting at 12:55 CEST, with qualifying starting at 13:20 instead of the previously scheduled 13:00.
By adding the additional track time, teams will be given the opportunity to test tyres from a batch produced during a different build period.
In addition, the Stewards have agreed that two new tyres for each of the remaining four track sessions will be provided to each competitor.
To complicate things further, rain has hit the Nürburgring, meaning that teams are likely to hit the track with wet tyres today in contrast to yesterday’s practice sessions which were held in the dry, with teams exclusively running slicks.
