Shane van Gisbergen heads Triple Eight 1-2

Shane van Gisbergen headed a Triple Eight Race Engineering 1-2 with team-mate Broc Feeney in the second Supercars Championship race of the weekend at Symmons Plains.

The reigning champion started from pole but was beaten off the line by Feeney who made the better start.

But the race was red flagged at the end of the first lap as Jack Le Brocq and Andre Heimgartner clashed, resulting in barrier damage that had to be repaired.

Feeney claimed the lead at the restart but was unable to keep his team-mate behind, with van Gisbergen getting past at Turn 6 during the first lap of the restart.

Van Gisbergen won the race 2.4 seconds ahead of Feeney who secured his maiden Supercars Championship podium finish.

David Reynolds finished third for Grove Racing, never getting close enough to challenge the leading duo.

Points leader Chaz Mostert charged through the field from 16th on the grid to finish fourth, four seconds adrift from the leaders.

Title rival Anton De Pasquale was fifth over the finishing line for DJR, with Mark Winterbottom rounding off the top six.

Cameron Waters was given a drive through penalty for a clash with Tim Slade, resulting in a spectacular off for Slade at Turn 5. Both were able to continue, albeit further down the field to finish 16th and 17th respectively.

The final race of the weekend at Symmons Plains starts at 15:55 local time/06:55 CEST.
