Hyundai confirms extension with Jean-Karl Vernay for 2022
Hyundai Motorsport has confirmed that Jean-Karl Vernay will remain as part of its customer racing programme for 2022, although the Korean manufacturer is yet to confirm where the Frenchman will compete.
Vernay joined Hyundai ahead of the 2021 season and impressed on his debut season to finish as runner-up in the inaugural PURE ETCR season and third overall in the WTCR.
“He is still a Hyundai Motorsport Customer Racing driver for this season, and his programme(s) for this year will be revealed once they are finalised closer to the season start,” said a Hyundai Motorsport spokesperson to TouringCarTimes.
Vernay drove for Engstler Motorsport in the WTCR last year and after the German team announced its split with Hyundai for 2022, Vernay was not among the drivers named by BRC Hyundai recently.
While not yet confirmed for either WTCR or ETCR, both Vernay and Hyundai have stated ‘programmes’ rather than ‘programme’ for the upcoming season.
“I can only say at this moment that I will remain with Hyundai for 2022 and my programmes will be announced in a close future,” said Vernay to TouringCarTimes.
