17-year-old Marius Solberg Hansen joins 2022 STCC grid
Marius Solberg Hansen will make his STCC TCR Scandinavia debut this year with his family team MSH Motorsport.
“It’s going to be really exciting to take on the STCC, a championship with a very high level of competition and history. I feel extremely motivated,” said Solberg Hansen.
The 17-year-old is the reigning Norwegian rallycross and racing champion and took part in the 2021 European rallycross championship, receiving the “Petter Solberg Scolarship” for his results last year.
“The STCC is the right step for Marius with tough competition and a strong platform for an international racing career,” said team manager Øivind Solberg Hansen.
“We are going to drive selected rallycross races alongside the racing, but our main focus is on the STCC where our goal for 2022 is to build as much experience as possible.”
The team has bought the Volkswagen Golf GTI TCR that Rob Huff claimed the 2020 STCC title with for Lestrup Racing Team.
Solberg Hansen completed a first test with the car at Rudskogen in Norway late last year together with Lestrup Racing Team.
“The car was awesome to drive, so much grip and really responsive to the few changes that we had time to do. I’m longing to drive more tests ahead of the 2022 season,” said Solberg Hansen.
“We are of course humble for the task that lies ahead of us, the competition in the STCC is really tough and it’s difficult to know where we will stand. But we will work our way forward with determination and hope to fight into the top ten.”
