Luca Engstler gets Audi Sport customer racing contract for 2022
Reigning TCR Germany champion and WTCR driver Luca Engstler has been signed up to Audi Sport’s customer racing programme for 2022 where the German looks set for GT racing.
“We’ve rejuvenated our line-up once again and are ideally positioned for all challenges in GT3 racing as well as WTCR touring car racing,” said Chris Reinke, head of Audi Sport customer racing.
“From young talents to established names, we have a promising mix of international drivers especially in the customer programs but also for all tasks in strategic races.”
Also included in the programme are Audi WTCR drivers Gilles Magnus, Nathanaël Berthon and Frédéric Vervisch.
Engstler has raced Hyundais with Engstler Motorsport for the past three years and finished 15th in the 2021 WTCR.
However, it does not look like the 21-year-old will race for Audi in the WTCR this year, instead focusing on GT racing.
“It is a big dream coming true for me, to work for such an amazing brand,” wrote Engstler on his social media channels.
“For doing the next step in my career I just wanna say thank you to all my family, friends and partners that have helped me to achieve my dream and race for Audi in the GT3 world.”
