Anton De Pasquale secures double Sunday pole
Anton De Pasquale remains the man to beat in Sydney after securing pole for both Sunday races as he continued to dominate the latest round of the Supercars season.
With the two sessions running for just ten minutes apiece, drivers had to quickly get down to business with the field streaming out onto the track when the green flag flew.
Qualifying for round 21 would see the vast majority of the field pit after a single lap before going out to chase a time – with only six drivers electing to do two timed runs.
Jack Le Brocq held provisional pole with less than three minutes remaining but his time would be beaten with ease with Brodie Kostecki jumping up to pole and De Pasquale then putting in a storming lap that put him well over half a second clear of anyone else.
De Pasquale would end up grabbing his sixth pole by a margin of six-tenths of second from team-mate Will Davison, with Kostecki ending up third from Jamie Whincup, with Nick Percat and points leader Shane van Gisbergen completing the top six.
De Pasquale then doubled up for the day as he grabbed pole for race three with a lap slightly slower than in the previous session, although it still left him well clear of Will Brown in second; the pair split by nearly four tenths of a second.
The leading pair would again run a single flyer to save tyres for the races, as did Triple Eight pair Jamie Whincup and van Gisbergen on row two, with Kostecki and Davison sharing the third row.
De Pasquale will now look to make it two wins from two when the second race of the weekend kicks of at 12:45 local time.
