Jason Plato hits the front as times drop in second practice

Jason Plato topped the times for Power Maxed Racing in the second free practice session of the weekend at Donington Park.

Plato left it until the closing moments of the session to make his move to the front, with the BTC Racing Honda of Josh Cook looking good to lead the way as he set the pace before returning to the pits to exit his car.

Plato had other ideas however and having moved into second with a time just 0.001s down on Cook, he improved on his next lap to hit top spot with the fastest lap of the weekend to date.

Chris Smiley also edged ahead of Cook in the closing moments to put his EXCELR8 Hyundai into second spot, with Cook and fellow Honda driver Gordon Shedden behind.

Fifth spot went to Jack Mitchell thanks to his most competitive showing to date in the Team HARD Cupra just ahead of Aron Taylor-Smith as the Irish driver continued to impress in one of the sister cars.

Rory Butcher, Tom Ingram, Stephen Jelley and Tom Oliphant rounded out the top ten.

Points leader Ash Sutton was just outside the top ten in eleventh place, with Colin Turkington in 19th.

The two-part qualifying session kicks off at 14:35.
