Franco Girolami: “For me there is only one thing I can do”
PSS Racing Team’s Franco Girolami remains positive ahead of his title fight with Mikel Azcona in the TCR Europe finale at Barcelona this weekend, stating that he can only focus on going flat out.
“I’m very, very happy after the first day here,” Girolami told TouringCarTimes.
“Despite having the 60 kilos of weight we’ve been competitive, with two results in the top three in the first two sessions.”
The Argentinian competes for the first time at the Spanish track this weekend, still managing to set the third fastest time in the final practice session.
“This is my first time here, so I have also been learning the track and learning where I can go faster. We’ve been working the setup and, all in all, I think we are in a good position for the qualifying tomorrow,” said Girolami.
Girolami trails Volcano Motorsport’s Mikel Azcona (Cupra León Competición) by 53 points and acknowledges he’s got only one option for the qualifying and races.
“He’s the one who can have a strategy, for me there is only one thing I can do,” the Argentinian explained. “I will try to do the best at the qualifying and then go for everything in the races and see what happens and how it goes. This is my only option.”
If Azcona, who is on TCR Europe and WTCR duty this weekend, scores 33 points more than Girolami in the qualifying and race of tomorrow, the Spaniard will be crowned champion.
