Mat’o Homola rises to the top in second free practice at Monza

Janík Motorsport’s Mat’o Homola (Hyundai i30 N TCR) was the fastest driver in the second free practice session at Monza, host of the penultimate round of the 2021 TCR Europe season.

Homola set a best lap time of 1:57.863 in the closing moments of the session, beating Honda driver Franco Girolami of PSS Racing Team by 0.137 seconds.

Jack Young of Brutal Fish was third, 0.277 seconds off the pace, followed by Volcano Motorsport’s Evgenii Leonov, driving a Cupra Leon Competición.

Jimmy Clairet, with a Peugeot 308TCR from Team Clairet, finished in fifth place, with Comtoyou Racing driver Tom Coronel next, 0.756 seconds behind Homola. His team-mate Nicolas Baert finished the session in seventh place.

The Sébastien Loeb Racing drivers were next, with Sami Taoufik in eighth place, just ahead of Felice Jelmini. Klim Gavrilov, driving an Audi RS 3 LMS of VRC-Team, completed the top ten, 1.007 seconds off the pace.

The session featured a full course yellow caution after Gustav Birch of Brian Madsen Sport stopped at Turn 1 due to a technical issue.

The TCR Europe field returns to the track on Saturday morning for the qualifying session at 09:00 CEST.
