28 cars headed for penultimate TCR Europe round of 2021
A total of 28 cars will be on the grid for the penultimate TCR Europe round of the 2021 season this weekend at Monza in Italy, the so far largest grid of the season.
Cupra driver Mikel Azcona heads to the round in the lead of the standings after claiming four victories in a row from the previous weekends at Spa and the Nürburgring.
The Spaniard heads Honda driver Franco Girolami by 37 points while Audi driver Niels Langeveld is third, a further 51 points behind.
180 points are still left to be fought for, but new for this year is that drivers will score their two worst scores. This boosts Azcona’s title hopes further as he did not take part in the races at Zandvoort, meaning that he will not drop any further points.
A total of five new drivers will take part in the Monza weekend.
TCR Italy front runner Damiano Reduzzi will drive a Hyundai while RC2 Junior Team will run two Cupras for Sergio López and Spaniard Rubén Fernández.
Horňák-Aditis Racing Team will run two Audis for TCR Eastern Europe regulars Bartosz Groszek and Petr Čižek.
The TCR Europe weekend at Monza starts on Friday with free practice, followed by qualifying and the first race on Saturday while Sunday will host the second and final race of the weekend.
