Gordon Shedden hits the front in second practice

Gordon Shedden moved to the head of the times with the fastest lap of the weekend so far as the BTCC field returned to the circuit for second free practice at Thruxton.

The Team Dynamics driver was able to lower the benchmark time set by Josh Cook earlier in the day, with his fastest lap of 1:15.537s coming in the final ten minutes of the session as he jumped ahead of the BMW of Tom Oliphant into top spot.

In what would prove to be an encouraging session for the rear-wheel drive runners, Adam Morgan went third quickest to suggest that the Hondas could be challenged at the front of the pack, with Rory Butcher’s Toyota also showing strong pace as the Scot slotted into fourth spot.

Dan Rowbottom and Senna Proctor took fifth and sixth in their Civic Type Rs, with Tom Ingram leaving it until the final moments of the session to move up into seventh spot.

That left the EXCELR8 driver as the best placed of the main championship contenders in his Hyundai ahead of Jake Hill’s Focus, points leader Ash Sutton and Cook.

The top 13 drivers in the session would end up covered in the session by a second, including Jade Edwards who enjoyed her most competitive session of the season and will now hope to build on that in qualifying later this afternoon.
