Colin Turkington pleased to be back on form
Colin Turkington admitted he was delighted to return to form after snaring pole for the fifth meeting of the BTCC season at Knockhill.
The WSR driver had endured a tough run of form at Brands Hatch and Oulton Park to drop down to ninth in the standings, although that meant he carried less success ballast than usual into the Knockhill weekend.
The former champion would run inside the top five in both free practice sessions but then delivered the goods when it mattered in qualifying to put his BMW onto pole position.
Turkington will now hope to fight for WSR’s 100th race win on Sunday.
“It’s a great feeling to be back at the sharp end of the grid and nice to be one pole again,” he said. “WSR gave me a fast car and I felt I could really push and although it’s closer than ever, we’re in a good place.
“It’s about building through the day to be in the right place when it matters. We improved the car in FP1 and FP2 and were in the sweet spot for qualifying, so it’s nice to see it all come together.
“We’ve had a tough few meetings, but I’m confident that we can score some good points tomorrow.”
