John Filippi crashes in additional Copenhagen PURE ETCR practice session
Hyundai Motorsport has been forced into a repair job ahead of the PURE ETCR Pool B battles in Copenhagen after John Filippi crashed at the end of an extra practice session in the Danish capital.
An additional 30-minute session for all six cars to take part in was organised by the series officials after a heavy rain shower hit the circuit following the Pool A battles. None of the ETCR cars had previously tested in the wet and as such, a change to the timetable was announced.
The Pool B Round 1 battles will now take place at 14:10, the timeslot originally given to the Pool A Round 2 races. The rest of the Round 2 Battles will be fitted into the schedule accordingly.
Topping the times at the end of the half-hour session was Romeo Ferraris’ Luca Filippi, who set a best time of 1:16.245, which was nine-tenths of a second quicker than Mattias Ekström’s Cupra X Zengo Motorsport machine.
John Filippi finished as the best-placed Hyundai Velostar N ETCR but his session ended prematurely after sliding wide at a tight right-hander at the end of the long backstraight, slamming into the protective wall on the outside.
Filippi suffered extensive damage to the front left-hand side corner of his Velostar and managed to reverse out of the barrier in an attempt to get the car back to the pits. But such was the damage, the Frenchman was unable to get going again.
Filippi had finished third in Pool A’s opening Battle, with team-mate Tom Chilton – who shares the same car – taking part in the second Battle in Pool B later this afternoon.
Behind Filippi came Pool A Battle 1 winner Oliver Webb in the Romeo Ferraris Alfa, ahead of Jean-Karl Vernay and Dániel Nagy.
