Senna Proctor: “That was the win I wanted”
Senna Proctor admitted that he was thrilled to take a win “on pure pace” after picking up his first victory for BTC Racing at Oulton Park.
Proctor enjoyed his best weekend of the season by far in Cheshire as he built on the front-running pace he had displayed at the Goodyear tyre test earlier in the month – where he posted the fastest time.
Qualifying saw Proctor secure his maiden series pole position but a poor start to race would would see him drop down the order and – after the race was restarted following Tom OIliphant’s accident – he would end up back in ninth spot.
A similar result in race two then left Proctor drawn on pole for race three and he would go on to secure victory after leading the restart from start to finish – aside from a brief moment when Ash Sutton got ahead on the run to turn one before contact between the pair saw the points leader suffer a spin.
“It’s a shame it wasn’t in race one, but i’ll take the win in race three,” he said. “To be honest, I don’t see it as a reverse grid win as we have shown all weekend that had the genuine pace to be running at the front.
“We would probably have won race one if I’d been able to get it off the line, but we got the job done in race three and I have now to try and carry the momentum forwards into the rounds to come.
“Although I had celebrated a win in the BTCC before, it was a bit of a bugbear that I didn’t get a victory when everyone was facing equal conditions and it was case of the fastest car won – but that’s how it was this time.
“I’m delighted to get the win, and a big thanks to BTC Racing for giving me such a great car.”
