Jack Goff admits surprise at early Cupra podium
Jack Goff admitted he was surprised to score a podium finish with the new Team HARD Cupra in the third BTCC meeting for the car at Brands Hatch.
Goff had enjoyed a solid start to life with the new car, showing impressive pace during the season launch test at Silverstone and then scoring three points finishes at Thruxton first time out.
Having repeated the feat at Snetterton, Goff headed for his home circuit as one of only three drivers to have scored points in every race and he maintained that run in the opening two races of the weekend with tenth and eleventh.
Drawn onto the front row for the final race, Goff would slip behind the Infiniti of Aiden Moffat but overhauled the Scot to get back into second and then pushed hard to try and close in on leader Adam Morgan.
Although unable to catch the BMW, Goff secured a solid second place and his first silverware of the campaign; ending the weekend ninth in the standings.
“We’ve been really consistent so far and we’re one of only two cars now to score each race,” he said. “That’s something that I didn’t expect, and and a podium in round three is above expectations I think.
“We know where we are strong and where we are weak at the moment, and that is something we can work on during the upcoming test at Oulton Park. Our issue at the moment seems to be switching the tyres on and that was what we saw in race three when I struggled early on and then the car came to me.
“We need to work now on getting the tyres to work so we can maximise qualifying as we’ve shown we have top six race pace throughout the last two rounds. We just need to nail Saturdays and then we can look to add to this silverware.”
