Luca Engstler handed penalty after Nordschleife Race 1
Engstler Racing’s Luca Engstler has been handed a five-second penalty and one penalty point following an incident in Race 1 at the Nürburgring.
The Hyundai Elantra N driver finished 14th in the opening race of the weekend, scoring two points but was penalised for his part in contact with Zengo Motorsport’s Mikel Azcona on lap one.
Engstler was found to be in breach of Article 17.1 b) of the WTCR sporting regulations and was punished for “several contacts with the rear of the Car #96 [Azcona] at MP24 and gained a position.”
Five seconds has been added to Engstler’s race time, meaning he drops out of the points to 17th in the classification.
Elsewhere, an investigation into a practice start from Cyan Racing’s Yvan Muller ahead of the opening race brought not further action from the race stewards.
