Toyota Corolla TCR set for track debut late 2021

Toyota Gazoo Racing Argentina received the green light last month to build and homologate a TCR version of the Corolla. The plan is for the car to make its track debut before the end of 2021.

“We are planning to conduct a first test and presentation of the car by the end of this year,” said a Toyota Gazoo Racing Argentina spokesperson.

“The technical and engineering work has already started at the Toyota Gazoo Racing Argentina headquarters.”

The TCR car will be based on the Corolla GRS sedan, using the 8AR-FTS engine, and development work will be carried out by the Toyota Gazoo Racing Latin America drivers.

The car will not be limited to South America, with Toyota Gazoo Racing Argentina planning for global sales.

“The car is developed for global sales. We will work with the Toyota Gazoo Racing Network around the globe to give technical support to teams in Europe, Asia and Australia,” said the spokesperson.

“We are responsible for the development and the subsequent homologation, manufacture and marketing, exclusively, of Toyota vehicles for TCR competition around the world. In this way, we are working in collaboration from GR Company in Japan and TGR Europe.”
