TCR in talks with Mazda and Toyota regarding future involvement
TCR CEO Marcello Lotti has confirmed that he is in contact with Mazda and Toyota regarding potential future involvement in the category.
“We are in contact with Mazda and Toyota and we will have soon information about their plans,” said Lotti.
“After six years of TCR competitions around the world, the constant interest from new brands is testament to the great success achieved by the category.”
Toyota Argentina recently confirmed that work has begun on constructing a sedan TCR model ahead of the 2021 season.
Mazda USA meanwhile cancelled its Mazda3 TCR programme due to the pandemic.
The most recently announced TCR model is the Hyundai Elantra N TCR, with Tecnodom Motorsport also resuming work on the Fiat Tipo TCR.
“In 2021 new TCR models will be available to the customer teams all around the world,” said Lotti.
“The Fiat Tipo has made its maiden appearance in the TCR Europe event at Monza and is now ready to complete the homologation procedure.
“The Hyundai Elantra N has completed its technical development phase and will be submitted for homologation at the beginning of the new year.”
