Néstor Girolami to serve grid penalty in Spain
Néstor Girolami will take a five place grid penalty into the Motorland Aragon weekend after being hit with a penalty for contact in the second World Touring Car Cup race at the Hungaroring.
The Münnich Motorsport driver made contact with the Cupra of Mikel Azcona on the opening lap of the race which resulted in both drivers being forced into retirement.
Girolami was deemed to be at fault by stewards afterwards and handed a five place grid penalty that he will now take in the opening race in Spain, whilst the Argentine driver was also handed two additional penalty points that takes him up to four in total.
Two other drivers were also hit with penalties for incidents in the second race; both of which had a direct impact on the end result.
Nathanaël Berthon had taken the flag in fifth place in his Comtoyou Racing Audi but was hit with a five second time penalty for a collision with Bence Boldisz’s Cupra, which dropped the French driver down to twelfth place.
Berthon would end up classified in eleventh however because of a penalty for Gabriele Tarquini, who dropped from eleventh to 18th.
That was down to a 30 second time penalty – handed out in lieu of a drive-through – for two separate incidents with Thed Björk and Aurélien Comte.
