Julián Santero pulls out of STC2000 weekend after positive COVID-19 test

Toyota Gazoo Racing driver Julián Santero has tested positive for coronavirus ahead of Super TC2000’s second round of the season this weekend in Buenos Aires.

The 26-year-old took third last weekend behind Chevrolet driver Agustín Canapino and fellow Toyota team-mate Matías Rossi.

Santero has not stayed in the circuit during the week between the two events, and after his positive result, his close work staff were all tested.

Despite no more infections being detected, they were all isolated while the garage was completely disinfected.

Super TC2000 has ordered over 200 COVID testing kits developed to produce a result after 15 minutes. All the staff involved in the race were submitted to testing, especially the teams who must return to other provinces.

Santero will stay in isolation at home for an undefined time, considering any person infected must stay without symptoms for at least 10 days to be considered a negative case again.

Toyota Gazoo Racing will field the remainder of its line-up including Matías Rossi, Rubens Barrichello and Hernán Palazzo for the race weekend.
