Niki Schelle joins Hockenheim grid in Hyundai VIP car
Rally driver Niki Schelle will drive the VIP car of Hyundai Team Engstler in this weekend’s TCR Germany championship races at Hockenheim.
“It is a great pleasure and honor to be able to race with the Hyundai Team Engstler in TCR Germany”, said Schelle.
The 54-year-old has a background of rallying and endurance races, most recently driving a Suzuki Swift in the 2019 Niederösterreich Rallye.
“I know a lot of front-wheel drive cars from rallying, but that’s new to me on the racetrack,” said Schelle.
“So it’s a jump into ice-cold water, especially since I only know the Hockenheimring from test sessions. The field in the ADAC TCR Germany is very tight, so it will definitely not be easy. But I will give everything. A result in the top ten would be a dream.”
Reigning WTCR champion Norbert Michelisz drove the VIP car in the previous round at the Nürburgring.
