Josh Cook praises BTC Racing after astonishing comeback
Josh Cook was full of praise for his BTC Racing team after it was able to get him back on track after a huge accident during the opening race of the weekend at Knockhill.
Cook went off at speed when he lost the rear end of his car in the dip at Butchers, with the Civic Type R spearing into the tyre wall on the right hand side, causing extensive damage and immediately raising questions as to whether his weekend had come to an early end.
However, astonishing work from the team ensured that not only was the car repaired, but it was ready to go in time for the second race of the weekend, although that would end in heartbreaking fashion when Cook was tipped into a spin at McIntyres after Jack Butel and Mike Bushell clashed and forced to retire.
He would however manage to fight from the back of the grid to score points in race three.
“It was a shock that they got the car out again,” he admitted. “When I saw the state of the roof and the fact that the rear wheel was almost inside the car, I thought it would be terminal for race three, never mind race two.
“The fact they got it back together and actually gave me a car that had four wheels that were straight and that was driving well was unbelievable. The guys have a 100 per cent record of always getting the car out, but I really didn’t think it would continue today!
“It was a phenomenal job, but when the going gets tough, you see what your team is really like. I was just gutted for them that race two then ended as it did. I’d got a good start but then a move between two others went wrong and I got collected. That happens when you are fighting near the back and it was a case of us just being in the wrong place at the wrong time.”
Having endured a tough season to date, Cook will now look to fight back on home soil at Thruxton next time out to get his campaign back on track.
“We have to go there and get our heads down and push towards three strong results,” he said. “If there is the chance to take a podium or a win then I’ll go for it. I have no real need to think about a championship, so can go just go for full attack.”
