Jamie Whincup makes it two from two wins at Townsville

Jamie Whincup had an easy second Townsville Supercars Championship race to claim his second straight victory.

The Triple Eight Race Engineering driver won the race from pole ahead of Chaz Mostert and team-mate Shane van Gisbergen, three and 16 seconds behind respectively.

Van Gisbergen made strong progress during the final part of race, getting past Scott McLaughlin, Nick Percat and Cameron Waters.

Tickford Racing driver James Courtney held third place earlier in the race but dropped down to finish seventh, complaining about brake issues with his Ford Mustang.

Waters finished fourth ahead of Percat and championship leader McLaughlin, who has a 109-point advantage over Whincup in the standings.

The third and final race of the Townsville weekend starts at 15:40 local time / 07:40 CEST.
