Colin Turkington: “Vital to finish well when we can”
Colin Turkington said he was pleased to “finish well” in all three races at Knockhill after retaining his lead in the BTCC standings.
The West Surrey Racing driver went into race day looking to build on a strong showing in qualifying where he put his BMW on the second row of the grid despite maximum ballast onboard.
The defending champion would push rival Ash Sutton hard in the opening two races to secure a brace of second place finishes and then finished ahead of the Infiniti man in race three with a battling drive to P9.
It means Turkington takes a lead of ten points into the short three week break before Thruxton next month.
“We’ve never been too far apart all weekend but I’m really pleased with my own performance,” he said. “The BMW has always been strong at Knockhill and two podiums and a P9 is good points for my campaign. It is always nice to win, but when you can’t, you have to finish well and the car has been consistently good all season which has been key.
“Qualifying was the platform for the weekend and the lap on Saturday set us up well. That has been a strength for us so far this season, and from there it was good to push forwards and score well on race day. We can now take a few weeks to recharge the batteries as it has been intense over the past month and prepare for the rest of the season.”
